I cannot stress enough how important it is that you know what you are putting on your skin. When it comes to bath and body products, that you use everyday, you need to be aware of what ingredients you are slathering over your body. When you are at the store or online, find the ingredients and if you have any questions, go to the Environmental Working Group’s Skindeep Database. I appreciate when online companies display their ingredients so you know what you are buying.
Room 88 Soap Company, based in Orange County, California, creates both natural bath and body products. The name of the company was inspired by the number eight which is similar in meaning to the words prosper or fortune. There is also a visual resemblance between the two digits 88, meaning joy or happiness.
What you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it. Bathing should be a therapeutic process that cleanses the mind and body at the start or end of each day. Our job is to make sure people are provided with the proper resources to engage in these activities. The truth is there are over two million soap makers and they have made some creative and desirable products. Our philosophy of making soaps from high quality plant based ingredients are as pure and simple as who we are as people. We produce fun vibrant colors and our bars have a clear glycerin top that nearly remains until the last bit of soap is used.
The soaps are made with a 100% vegetable soap base consisting of olive oil, coconut oil, and sustainable palm oil. All of their ingredients can be found on their website. All of their ingredients are produced in the USA. They use both fragrance and essential oils, so I would stick with the soaps and other products created with essential oils, since I am not a fan of fragrance oils. The only other questionable ingredient I found was “dimethicone“, which is rated a 3 on the EWG. It is a silicon-based polymer used as a lubricant and conditioning agent. All the products are paraben free, phthalate free, and contain no petrochemicals, no artificial colors, no artificial fragrances, no aluminum, and no animal testing
I was sent a Lavender Lemon body lotion and the Pomegranate Pear bar soap.
The Pomegranate Pear bar soap is made with coconut oil, olive oil, sustainable palm oil, water, sodium hydroxide, shea butter & grapefruit seed extract, vegetable glycerin, fragrance oil and natural soap pigment. The soap moisturizes very well and suds easily in the shower. It smells great and feels great on my skin.
The Lavender Lemon body lotion is made with deionized water, aloe vera gel, shea butter, vegetable glycerin, palm oil emulsifier, silk protein, ester of palm oil moisturizer, grapefruit seed extract, dimethicone, allantion pro-vitamin, vitamins (A, B-5, D, E), and fragrance oil. The lotion feels great on my skin. It also smells really good and a little goes a long way.
I like what Room 88 is doing and their variety of products. I appreciate that their products don’t contain any parabens or phthalates, but I would love to see them use only essential oils to scent their products. You can buy these products online or at their store in Huntington Beach, CA. The lotion is $8.49 and the soap is $6.49.

Have you ever found a company and got excited about trying out the rest of their products? I met up with Baby Mantra in June at the NPA Marketplace. I was given their Shampoo & Body Wash and I loved using it on my kids. You can read my review HERE of the Shampoo and the company. Baby Mantra is a sister run company whose mantra is to produce organic and natural products that are safe for mommy & baby, as well as the environment.
I was sent their Calming Lotion to review. The lotion doesn’t contain toxins, artificial preservatives, dyes, chemicals or fragrances, and is Gluten Free and NPA Certified. The lotion is infused with Vitamin E and Aloe, while Lavender Oil gives it a sweet scent. The lotion is not greasy and is perfect for baby’s skin. My daughter loves having lotion rubbed on her arms and face at night. I like what Baby Mantra stands for and I am glad that I can use natural lotion on my kids instead of chemical laden ones. The Calming lotion smells sweet and absorbs nicely into the skin.

I worked with Nature Certified earlier this year and enjoyed using their certified organic products. Nature Certified uses organic ingredients, the same ingredients that will be found in USDA organic food. Their products contain no synthetic preservatives, only vitamin E or the honey suckle flower. They strive to use products that have been used for centuries as natural remedies. For example, Rooibos was used by the Bushman in South Africa, Coconut Oil has been used in Asian countries for centuries and Turmeric is commonly used in India. They also donate 5% of their profits to support children’s rights and their quality of life.
