Office Depot Gives Back #TeachersChangeLives + Learn How to Adopt a Classroom

My son is a Kindergartener this year and I can see first hand how hard teachers work. As a substitute teacher I have been interacting with classrooms for the last 5 years. I know teachers spend money out of their pocket to create amazing learning environments for their kids. I also know that teachers go out of their way to treat their students as best they can.

Office Depot Gives Back to the Classroom #TeachersChangeLives

At Christmas break this past year, my son’s teacher bought each child in the class 2 small Christmas presents. This generosity showed me that she not only cared about the kids learning, but she wanted everyone to have a Christmas present. She spent her own money to give every child a gift.

Office Depot has teamed up with teachers across the country. They wanted to show how teachers go above and beyond to change lives. They found 10 teachers and asked them to share their story. One teacher, uses her Brillant Bus to give students access to technology. She used her life savings to build this bus to help bridge the digital divide. She has recently been featured as one of CNN’s heroes. Here is her story.

Heart Rate Monitors Make Exercise Simple

This is a sponsored post.

The basic function of a heart rate monitor is to measure one’s heart rate. The measurement can be in real time or recorded for later comparisons. It’s a popular devise used by those who take part in physical exercise and wish to monitor their health.

The first types of heart rate monitors were rather awkward. They had a monitoring box that used a set of electrodes that were attached to the individual’s chest. It made exercise cumbersome at best. In 1977 the first wireless model was introduced. This EKG heart rate monitor was developed for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski team. They used it during their high intensity training. It quickly caught on with other athletes. By the mid 1980’s, wireless heart rate monitors were being widely sold to anyone interested in staying on top of their health while performing physical activities.

Traditional wireless heart rate monitors consist of two pieces, a chest strap and a wrist receiver. Mobile phones are used in some instances. Today’s versions are made out of a conductive smart fabric that has microprocessors built in. These processors take in the EKG signal to read the heart rate.
