Rice is a staple in our home. There are so many options when it comes to cooking rice. Delta Blues Rice is a Mississippi family owned and operated company. Located in the Mississippi Delta, generations have overseen the farm to table operation. From farming, to milling, to packaging, Delta Blues Rice does it all.
Their focus has been one kind of white rice, until now. Delta Blues Rice is now offering Brown Rice along with their signature White Rice. They also offer Rice Grits, which I had never heard of before. Rice Grits are broken pieces of white rice. You can use the Grits to make Risotto, or just substitute it your favorite recipe.
I was able to make Sticky Rice with the Delta Blues white rice. The secret to stickyness is letting the rice soak before you cook it! There are a few methods to get sticky rice, I used the stove top method. Place 2 cups rice and 3 1/2 cups water in a large pot and let soak for at least 30 minutes. You can let the rice soak up to 4 hours. Then bring the water to a boil, place the lid on the pot and leave it tilted to vent. Turn the heat down to medium and let it cook for 10 minutes or until all the water is absorbed. Once the water is completely absorbed, place the lid on securely and let sit 10 minutes covered.
I serve sticky rice with veggies and baked tofu or pan fried tempeh. My kids prefer sticky rice, so they always gobble it up when I make it. I think the Rice Grits would also make a great version of sticky rice.
The Rice Grits can be used just like normal rice, but you can get some ideas from the Recipes available on the Delta Blues Rice website. I plan on making risotto soon and will probably use one of recipes using the rice grits. Rice Grits create a creamier rice, which is why it works well as risotto since it can hold the sauce. Rice Grits also cook faster than regular rice.
