UnReal Candy – Get Unjunked {Review}

Candy is everywhere! Most stores have in right in the aisle as you check out and it calls to you! Growing up I didn’t eat too much candy, but every now and then who doesn’t want a chocolate bar? Unreal is a new company dedicated to making chocolate bars unjunked.

So what is Unreal? Unreal is a company dedicated to making healthier foods. They are starting with chocolate, the worst offender. How can chocolates be healthy? Well, it is safe to say if you are eating a chocolate bar it isn’t “healthy” in general but for the occasional sweet treat, Unreal is the route to go. A 13 year old once did some research after getting into an argument with his dad about Halloween Candy. He set out to prove that candy wasn’t bad for you, but discovered that his dad was right. He set out with his older brother and dad to create a candy that wasn’t so bad for you! What came out of this was candy that had no partially hydrogenated oils, no corn syrup, no GMO’s, and no artificial colors, preservatives or flavors. What Unreal has done is replaced the junk in candy with good stuff. There is double the cocoa, more peanuts, real milk, cane sugar and organic palm fruit oil. This also leads to less sugar, as well as more fiber and protein. The goal is sell these candies along with every other candy bar out there in order to offer a better choice. Unreal chocolate is available in Walgreens, CVS, Michaels, Ralphs, Target, Food 4 Less and more. Unreal candy tastes the same (or even better), costs the same as other candy, and can be found where you normally shop! You can also see the colors that Unreal uses verses what other companies use.

They sent me a sampling of their chocolates. They currently offer 5 different chocolates similar to M&M’s, Peanut M&M’s, Milky Way, Snickers, and Reese’s.  As a mom and person who tries to stay away from GMO’s, corn syrup and anything artificial, I am glad that these are an option for myself and my kids as they get older. I haven’t tried every candy yet, because that would be a little gluttonous! The ones I have tried are really good! I wouldn’t say they taste the exact same, but how can they when they are made with better ingredients!

I can’t wait to for them to unjunk other foods, even attempt other kinds of candies! The only thing I wish they did different was use Fair Trade or ethically farmed cocoa. That is a big deal in my house and since Unreal is taking a stance against bad ingredients, they might as well take the next step and care about where their cocoa comes from! I appreciate what Unreal is doing and I look forward to their next venture!

    I also have not heard of these. I’m glad to see someone trying to put a better option out in the market. My only concern is that many times when someone makes a better product,it is marketed as health food. The public accepts the product as a healthy staple food, instead of the intended purpose of just replacing what would have already been eaten. I believe this trend has contributed to the over consumption occurring worldwide. However, kudos to Unreal for providing better options.

      That is very true Geri! Just because something is made better, does not mean that it is healthy! SO many people do not understand this! :( Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
