Reusable bags are a staple in my house! I hate using plastic grocery and retail store bags! Plastic is such a waste and our landfills have too much of it already! The next area in my life that I would like to completely eliminate is the use of plastic Ziploc bags! I hardly use them now, but sometimes they are so convenient! I have found some amazing reusable snack and sandwich bags companies and I would like to share one of them with you!
SnackTAXI was created by a mom whose 3 children were going through too many Ziploc baggies while making lunches for school! They were packing over 500 lunches a year and all that plastic waste was going straight into landfills! SnackTAXi manufactures four products: Snack-Sacks, Sandwich-Sacks, Produce-Sacks, and Twice-as-Nice Napkins, all are machine washable! SnackTAXI is a home-based workshop in Massachusetts with local sewers, and has/will never outsource its labor! SnackTAXI also participates in fundraisers!
Our mission here at snackTAXI is to make high quality, affordable reusable bags that empower everyone to reduce waste, while embracing business practices that respect our community, environment, and Earth.
Our Mission is to create fun & friendly items that make it easy for everyone to move their food in sustainable style!
My kids are still young and we don’t have to pack lunches yet. We do however, go through lots of snacks on the go! Reusable bags are perfect for my toddlers to hold their snacks in the car and on outings. I hope by starting to show my kids now that plastic isn’t the only option, then they will start to care once they reach elementary school! I figure that they will be good role models to others if I start showing them now that creating less waste is a better way to live!
I was given the opportunity to try out the Giraffe Garden Gray Sandwich-sack, which measures 7.5″ W x 6″ H! Just by looking at it, I can tell it is made with great quality fabric as well as beautifully put together! I love all their fabric choices and I am warning you that you will want more than one! I currently use my sandwich-sac to bring PB&J; on our outings or a large amount of snacks for a family picnic!
Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:
Why should I switch to reusable bags for my snacks and sandwiches? The US alone adds 20 million plastic baggies to landfills every single day. Every reusable bag you use has the potential to eliminate 1000’s of plastic bags over its life span. The snack-sacks and sandwich-sacks that we’ve sent out into the world in the last 2 years alone have kept over 7 million plastic baggies out of the waste stream. That’s 430,000 pounds of plastic!
What materials are used to make snackTAXIs? The exterior of a snackTAXI is comprised of 100% cotton, and the interior is lined with polyurethane coated nylon. All materials are lead, phthalate and BPA free! Material sources: the cotton we use is manufactured in Korea, the nylon is manufactured in Taiwan, and all of our products are manufactured in our rural Massachusetts workshop.
Overall, I love my SnackTAXI sandwich-sack! It is the perfect size for on the go snacks and sandwiches! I love the fabric and I love that my kids like using it! I recommend SnackTAXI to anyone looking to reduce their use of plastic Ziploc bags, as well as support a US based company started by a mom!
