I have been using cloth feminine pads for a couple years now and I am so glad that I made the switch. I haven’t invested in new pads since I started over four years ago…I am in desperate need for some new ones! This time around I am looking into organic pads to try out. The Willow Store offers organic cotton feminine products as well as other eco-friendly products for baby and mama!
Generations after generations have lived on our Earth, with the understanding that all things will return to the earth, all things are reusable. Recently in our history, our people have gotten off track, and have forgotten our future. We have created single use materials that cannot be returned to the Earth, that disrupt this natural cycle and change our future. We cannot continue to treat our planet as though it is single use. We must care for our planet, preserving it for our children. Now is the time to move forward with this basic principle. Catherine Bolden, founder and mom behind The Willow Store, created this company in 2005 to share her dedication and respect for our Earth, for our children and our reusable future. We will not compromise on our beliefs. All of our products are ethically manufactured in the US, we strongly support small business, and living wages. We choose only the highest quality materials, and organic whenever possible, sourced in the US whenever possible.
I love that all of their products are manufactured in the USA and made with sustainable resources. I thought that it was beautifully put on their site that it is important to remember that our earth has precious resources that shouldn’t be wasted, but at the same time, the earth produces sustainable resources that can be reused!
I was sent two Natural Feminine Care Regular Willow Pads, a Regular Cotton Panty Liner and an Anywhere Bag to review. The Organic Natural Feminine Care Regular Pads are valued at $8.76 each and also come in a Long size ($10.36). These pads have an outer shell that can be used on lighter days, and come with an insert for medium and heavy days. You can add an extra insert on days that you need it, but each pad comes with one. The pads have a snap that keep the pad in place in your panties. The Regular Organic Cotton Flannel Panty Liner is valued at $7.95 and can be worn everyday or just when you have a light flow. These have a snap that go around your panties as well, to keep it in place. They come in three different sizes: mini, regular and long. The Anywhere Bag is valued at $4.95 and is convenient to carry around an extra cloth pad that can be switched out to carry a used pad.
If you are new to cloth feminine pads, you may be wondering how many you need to last you through one menstrual cycle. According to The Willow Store, they recommend that the average woman will need 8-12 regular pads and 3 long pads. Also, having an extra set of inserts is helpful for heavier days. To wash your pads, first rinse them in cold water or peroxide, then wash with like colored clothing, and tumble dry. Do not use fabric softeners or bleach. Make sure you wash new pads 2-3 times before use to reach maximum absorbancy. The pads will also conveniently fold up and snap close so that they can easily be carried around in the Anywhere bag before and after use.
At this point you may be saying, “why use cloth feminine pads?”. Here are just a few reasons:
- They are softer and less bulky.
- They are safer because they are made with certified organic fabrics. This means there are no pesticides or no harsh chemicals.
- They contain no plastic and are breathable, which eliminates odors and irritation.
- They will save you money! Disposable pads are expensive and cloth pads can last for many years!
Willow Pads have an outer shell that is made of cotton flannel and the inner core is made of hemp. The hemp is what provides great absorbancy without the feel of a maxi pad.
I really love how soft these are! I haven’t had a chance to try these out the proper way…but I did try them on and they are really comfortable. I first tried the regular pad with one insert. If you have worn cloth pads before, or wear disposable pads, it felt pretty much the same. I next put in the second insert I had. In my opinion, it was too bulky for me. It wasn’t uncomfortable, it just felt a little thick. The cloth pads I am used to are similar in size to the ones with just one insert, so I don’t think I will need to wear it with an extra insert. And if I ever need more absorption, I know I have the extra insert and can use it! I then tried the panty liner and wore it for the day. It was very comfortable and not that noticeable to me! I like that the liner is thin because I can wear it any day that I need to and I also like that the regular pad can be worn without an insert because on lighter flow days either of these would work! I look forward to really trying these out {in about 2 1/2 weeks :)}! And if I haven’t stressed it enough, I LOVE that they are organic! My body appreciates that there are no chemicals or synthetic materials on my cloth pads!

Thank you for sharing this info. I just recently became aware that cloth pads exist, and while I’m still try to get over the ick factor, I think the environmental impact says a lot. It makes sense that when I decide to make the switch I’ll look for all-natural, fully-sustainable, chemical-free products, and Willow will be the first place I go.
I want to try the Mama Pads and the Laundry Nuts.
