Fall 2012 Cloth Diaper Drive {Giveaway & Auction Event} Ends 11/30

Welcome to the Fall 2012 Cloth Diaper Drive Giveaway & Fundraising Event hosted by Leettle Baby!

Last spring, with your help, we were able to send 30 diaper covers and 30 cotton prefolds to the DFW Cloth Diaper Project.

This time around we would love to make an even greater impact. For this event, we would love help the Tomahawk Sustainment Mission in their efforts to expand their cause to begin a cloth diapering program that will benefit the people living in the poverty-stricken Appalachia region of Kentucky. The founder, Terri, has estimated that there were 500 children that could benefit from this program.

DID YOU KNOW? The Appalachia region covers 13 different U.S. states, encompasses 420 counties and includes 25 million people? Sadly, some of the most distressed areas have 150% poverty rate over the average U.S. rate.

Why Cloth Diapers?

As many of us parents know, diapering our children can cost us a fortune. According to the Real Diaper Association, using disposables costs a family about $66 dollars per month, and about $1,600 for the first two years. Now imagine if you had to decide if your family was going to eat or spend money on buying more diapers. Some families even have to re-use their babies DISPOSABLE diapers because they cannot afford to buy more. The wonderful thing about cloth diapers is that you do not have to worry about purchasing more diapers and you can always have clean ones readily available! With this diaper program, these families will not have to spend a penny on diapers for their children.

In addition, disposable diapers are not compostable and are estimated to take 250 – 500 years to break down! Now imagine if you did not have a trash service to remove those diapers (like some of those living in the Appalachia area)…where would they go? Cloth diapers provide a more sanitary option to the environment and reduce landfill waste.

Dippee Dypees {Sponsor Spotlight} #FluffyButtsHop

My daughter is in the process of potty training! She has actually made a lot of progress in the last month! She rarely has an accident during the day, but we really haven’t tried during nap time and night time. When I signed up to be apart of the Fluffy Butts Cloth Diapering Giveaway, I knew that I wanted to work with a cloth trainer company!

I came across Dippee Dypees on Facebook and checked into the products on Etsy! I love how the trainers look like underwear! I thought this would be appealing to my daughter. Renee, the woman/mom behind Dippee Dypees, has fitteds, prefolds and breast pads, along with trainers, in her Etsy shop. Don’t see exactly what you want in her store? Then check out her Facebook page where you can find a list of products along with their prices that Renee is able to make! You can even view her fabric choices HERE.

My name is Renee, I am a wife and mom to 4 awesome kiddos. With my first child I tried to use cloth diapers but failed because I had no idea what I was doing and no resources to use. The next two came along and I never even though about cloth diapers, then came the princess. She was born and almost immediately started rashing. I changed wipes, diapers, baby soap, nothing worked. So I ventured into the cyber world of cloth diapering….holy crow I was completely overwhelmed! I started with a standard pocket with micro-fleece and a microfiber inner and still the rash… ugggg after more reading I realized she was probably allergic to the synthetic materials so I tried a bamboo fitted! Eureka I had found what worked for us. I started slowly buying bamboo and all I would need to make her what she needed. In my journey thru this I was noticing a trend, that was, man alive, diapers were expensive. So after spending some time working on my skills, (lol), I launched on Etsy and facebook. I was not prepared for all of the love from everyone here for sure! I soon asked a friend to come help and that’s when Patsy joined ranks :) Now we have a schedule of sorts, lol and we are both committed to making this small business grow, and to get good quality diapers to moms for an affordable price! Well, that’s the story of how Dippee Dypees was created, I hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into the beginnings of something great!

There are also daytime or low risk trainers, that are constructed with 1 layer of knit, 1 layer of bamboo and 2 extra layers of bamboo in the soakerzone.
