Clean Your Sink Naturally w/Vinegar & Baking Soda

Prepare yourself…sometimes I don’t clean my dishes after I use them, so they sit in the sink! Sometimes they sit in my sink overnight! I know I am the only person that does this, so maybe you won’t need help cleaning your sink! :)

With dishes sitting in there for a long time, the sink gets dirty quickly. Here is how I cleaned it and I bet you have these ingredients in your pantry already.

I emptied the sink and rinsed out the food and particles. Then I put a kitchen towel down and poured vinegar on it. I let it soak for an hour. Then using the towel I wiped down the sink. I have a double sink, so I used the towel to wipe down the other side. The vinegar smells, so I lit a candle and my house didn’t stink.

Clean Your Sink Naturally with Vinegar & Baking Soda

After wiping down the sink, I poured baking soda in the sink and used the towel to scrub it in. Then I rinsed the sink down and I was left with a shiny, clean sink!

Get Your Carpets Cleaned Today by Professionals

I received monetary compensation for this post.

Yes, it is still technically spring, which means that I still have time to get my house in order! I have been cleaning and getting rid of stuff, as we prepare to move this summer. One thing that needs to be done now is our carpets. They have not been cleaned in a while and I bet they would feel soft and look wonderful once we clean them. We don’t eat in the carpeted areas of our home, but it seems like there are random stains everywhere! Even though I vacuum regularly, I know that dust and dirt are hidden deep in the carpet fibers. I am in need of deep carpet cleaning.

30 Days of Etsy Giveaways #9 ~ MicroMops Ends 5/10

BlendingFamilysBlog

This review was done by BlendingFamilysBlog.
Our Final Week is Here with our April Days of Etsy Event!!!

I have heard from many of my friends that they have gone back to the old fashioned mop because of problems with the swiffer wet jet. It is not for everyone. When I personally got my wet jet I decided because it was easier and less of a mess to keep using it. I also preferred the old fashioned mop because of how well it worked.

As many of you know I love reusable items. I love to recycle and go as green as I can. When I found out about MicroMops on etsy I was extremely interested in learning more. MicroMops has a variety of items from MicroFiber Mitts, Swiffer Sweeper Fleece Pads, Wet jet pads,Bona/Starfiber Mop pads and lots more!

When I received reusable swiffer wet jet pads from MicroMops I immediately liked the color choices. They have so many to choose from! I was blown away by the fact that they work better than the disposable pads! I could not believe the work they do! What a difference. I am now enjoying mopping and love my swiffer wet jet!

The price is comparable to the disposables. Give them a try and tell me what you think! It seems simple but this has made a world of difference in my kitchen.

I love the color choices

This is how well it works! I have pets. Yuck. I love how thick these are and they are easy to wash! I just throw them in the washer when done.

Enter on the rafflecopter form below for your chance to win. One winner will receive a 3 Piece set of their own MicroMops in their choice of colors! The giveaway is open WW and ends 5/10. Good Luck!

Molly’s Suds All Natural Laundry Products ~ Cloth Diaper Friendly {Review/Sponsor Spotlight} #fluffylove

Doing the laundry is not a task I look forward to! With a family of four, it seems that we rack up a lot of dirty laundry. I can’t imagine what it looks like with families with more than two kids! Anyways, there is no getting out of doing laundry, so I choose to find the best detergent. In my quest to live a greener lifestyle, I prefer to use detergent with few, yet effective ingredients.

Molly’s Suds, a mom owned company, has created all natural laundry products. I feel like I am on the same journey as Monica and her family. She one day realized that buying just organic produce was not the answer. Chemicals are apparent in every cleaner and bath & body product. Upon this realization, Monica decided to create her own laundry detergent since it is used by everyone on a daily basis. If you have a moment read the “Our Story” section of the website to learn more about Monica’s journey.

molly feet A

Molly’s Suds product’s are truly all natural and are safe enough for babies. They  never contain parabens or harsh chemicals, nor do they contain SLS/SLES or phosphates.  Their ingredients are listed on their website for everyone to see. Every product is marked with Molly’s tiny footprints to show you that their detergent is safe for every member of your family, even the tiniest ones.

I was sent Molly’s Suds Laundry Powder and Wool Dryer Balls to review.

The Laundry Powder is ultra concentrated and one package will be enough for 128 loads. It will work in both High Efficiency and Standard washers. The detergent works well with cloth diapers, but will require more than the usual 1 scoop to get the job done.  There are no SLS/SLES, no phosphates, no petrochemicals, no formaldehyde, no parabens, no 1,4 dioxane, no EDTA, no Diethanolamines, no synthetic surfactants, and no PEG in the powder. It is biodegradable as well as certified vegan and cruelty free. It is safe for humans and pets! The ingredients are: Proprietary blend of sodium carbonate from the Green River Basin in Wyoming, sodium bicarbonate, epsom salt (epsomite) and sea salt. It is scented with organic peppermint essential oil. Safe enough for sensitive skin as well.

Right when I got my detergent I ripped open the bag to smell it….wonderful peppermint! It wasn’t overwhelming nor was it too faint. I used the detergent on my clothes and loved how little powder I had to use. Unfortunately my dryer just broke so I have put the remainder of my laundry on hold! I can’t wait to try it out on my kids clothes.

I love using Wool Dryer Balls when drying my clothes. They cut down on drying time and reduce static cling. They are safe for cloth diapers as well. It is recommended that you have 6-9 dryer balls to reap the full benefits they offer. You can even add a little essential oil to add a scent to your clothes. The best part is that these replace both fabric softener and dryer sheets.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and industry-generated Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) from the 1990s, the following is a list of chemicals in fabric softener products, most in untested combinations. (Liquid fabric softeners additionally may contain formaldehyde.):

  • Benzyl acetate: Linked to pancreatic cancer.
  • Benzyl Alcohol: Upper respiratory tract irritant.
  • Ethanol: On the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list and can cause central nervous system disorders.
  • Limonene: Suspected Gastrointestinal or Liver Toxicant, Immunotoxicant, Kidney Toxicant, Neurotoxicant, Respiratory Toxicant, and Skin or Sense Organ Toxicant.
  • A-Terpineol: Can cause respiratory problems, including fatal edema, and central nervous system damage.
  • Ethyl Acetate: A narcotic on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list.
  • Camphor: Causes central nervous system disorders.
  • Chloroform: Neurotoxic, anesthetic and carcinogenic.
  • Linalool: A narcotic that causes central nervous system disorders.
  • Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled.

As you can see, avoiding both fabric softener and dryer sheets will eliminate tons of toxins from your home. Dryer sheets don’t break down quikly either, so can you imagine how many are in our landfills? Wool is a sustainable resource and naturally biodegradable. Molly’s Suds Wool Dryer Balls are 100% wool and hand spun tightly. They will last up to 3 years in your dryer. That replaces tons of dryer sheets!

I am a huge fan of Wool Dryer Balls! I currently have nine in my dryer and I love sharing about them with my friends and family. I shudder at the thought of chemicals being leached into my clothes and will never go back to them…ever! Since I have been using dryer balls and natural laundry detergent for so long, I actually gag when I smell that fake “clean” smell. I know that my clothes are clean when they don’t smell at all. I just wish that more people would embrace the more natural way to clean their clothes and do away with the myth that there must be a clean “scent” in order to believe that clothes are actually clean.

Molly's Suds Natural Laundry Products ~ Laundry Powder and Wool Dryer Balls

You can buy both of these products and more online, with only a flat rate shipping fee of $6. The detergent is $21 and the set of three dryer balls is $20. It’s nice to support a mom owned company! It all comes down to a mom caring enough about her kids and the environment to make a difference. Support Molly’s Suds today to cast your vote for more natural products! Eco-Me Natual Cleaning Products {Review/Sponsor Spotlight} #GreenResolutions

Cleaning your house…*sigh*….need I say more. I like to have a clean house, but I don’t like to clean. Unfortunately, it is one of those things that has to be done, so I do it! As I strive to live a natural lifestyle, I have to examine the cleaning products I use. Sure bleach may make things really white, but is it worth it to have those nasty chemicals in your home? In my opinion, NO! I look at ingredients in all products I purchase, not just what I eat. Everything I bring into my house affects everyone in my family, as well as the environment. Chemicals can be inhaled by you or your family and absorb into your skin if it comes into contact. Chemicals don’t magically disappear after your use them, hey exit the home through your water pipes and end up soaking back into the earth. There are also studies that show certain chemicals affecting the human body.

Eco-Me, Natural Products

When Robin’s sister learned she had breast cancer at the age of 35, she had no family history, so the sisters decided to look into environmental causes. This is what they found…

  • The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stated that the air in our homes is 3 to 7 times more chemically polluted than outdoor air, pollution and all! Also, that the average home contains as much as 25 pounds of toxic cleaning products.
  • The Consumer Product Safety Commission stated that of the chemicals commonly found in homes, 50 have been linked to allergies, birth defects, cancer and psychological abnormalities.
  • The Breast Cancer Fund, a non-profit organization, wrote that a substantial and growing body of evidence indicates that exposures to certain toxic chemicals & hormone mimicking compounds contribute to the development of breast cancer.

Together, Robin and her sister replaced all the chemical laced products with natural, eco-friendly alternatives. The one product they found to be most effective in cleaning was vinegar which can eliminate 96% of bacteria. Robin was inspired to create her own line of green cleaning products. Eco-Me was created using the simplest of ingredients, so much that you may think to yourself “I can make that!”. The common ingredients are vinegar, olive oil, and baking soda.

Eco-Me has many awards and certifications praising their use of natural and safe ingredients in their products. They also strive to be a sustainable company by re-purposing their the steel drums their ingredients come in, as rain catchers and composters. Their plastics are PET#1, which are recycled and recyclable.

I was sent three of their natural cleaning products to review: Suzy Dish Soap, Kate Wood Polish and Phil Toilet Bowl Cleaner. Each of their cleaning products has a name! Each product comes to life as Suzy, Kate and Phil share a message regarding how each product cleans. You can also read all the ingredients online. Not only does Eco-Me sell cleaning products, they also sell cat and dog products as well as DIY product kits. I love that Eco-Me uses essential oils in their products. They all smell amazing, not like chemicals at all!

Kate Wood Polish can be used on wood furniture, cabinets, banisters, doors and floors. Its recommended that you use a microfiber cloth after polishing to remove extra oils. As you can see these cleaners are safe and effective. The essential oils also make them smell really good and that means no nasty chemical smells while you clean. You can purchase American made Eco-Me products in stores across the US and Canada as well as online. Suzy Dish Soap costs $4.99, Kate Wood Polish costs $5.49, and Phil Toilet Bowl Cleaner costs $6.49. These are not small containers either and will last a while.

SmartKlean Laundry Stain Remover Stick {Review/Giveaway} Ends 1/24

SmartKlean-Stain-Remover1

Remember SmartKlean? I blogged about their laundry ball last year. They came out with a new product…a non-toxic Stain Remover stick. This stick can be used on laundry stains, cloth diapers, upholstery, and carpets & rugs. This all natural stick is 100% biodegradable and can be effectively used on juice, blood, chocolate, dirt, grass, grease, ink, oil, red wine, ring around the collar, tomato sauces, underarm stains, and more.

The laundry stick is made of Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Canola Oil, Water, Eucalyptus Globulus Oil, Litsea Cubeba Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, and Borax. As you can see there are no SLS, SLES, parabens, pthalates, petroleum distillates, phosphates, dyes, artificial fragrance, hydrogenated oils or preservatives in the stick. It is scented with 100% pure eucalyptus leaf oil. To properly use the stick, you wet the stain with water, then rub the stick gently on the stain till it lathers, then wash as usual. If the stain is stubborn you can scrub in the lather with a brush or wash cloth before laundering.

With two young kids, I see plenty of stains! It’s nice to have a bar that I can rub on the stain. I normally use a spray and let it sit, but sometimes there are stubborn stains that actually need to be worked out. I have used sprays before that have choked me up because of all the chemicals in them. I love that this is truly a natural stain remover. I am working on removing all chemicals from my home so I am happy when I find natural products that work.

If you are looking for a natural stain remover, try out the SmartKlean non-toxic stain remover stick. You can buy it online for $9.80 + $4.50 shipping. I love my SmartKlean Laundry Ball and if you go through this special link you can purchase the laundry ball for $45 & free shipping.
